There are many properties in the Warwick area and much of the housing stock is historic. Older properties can have many quirks and require constant maintenance to keep them in tip top condition.

Electrical wiring is often an overlooked component of any upgrade, improvement or renovation works and as such cabling can be left to decay, fuse boards can degrade internally and electrical systems in general can fall into disrepair.

Electrical faults can develop over many years and when issues start occurring you may end up searching for a REWIRE ELECTRICIAN NEAR ME on the internet!

As your local electrician in Warwick, I can assist with your electrical needs. If you suspect that you may need a REWIRE IN WARWICK then get in touch and I will be happy to provide you with a quote.

When is a rewire necessary?

Electrical systems and wiring do not last forever but it is possible to see several decades out of a well installed electrical installation with light use. The only way to establish when a rewire might be necessary is to have an electrical inspection carried out.
There can be some signs that electrical faults are present and a rewire is looming such as:

Flickering Lights

Where lights begin to flicker, things are not quite right. Loose wiring, burnt out connections and failing lighting components can all contribute to flickering lights. Whatever the eventual cause is, an electrician should be contacted to investigate the reason for flickering lights as the situation could be potentially dangerous.

Burning Smells

Electrical burning smells are unmistakable once experienced. A melting plastic, fishy smell is very common where wiring and connections are smouldering and danger is certainly present under these conditions.

If you can smell this odour then it is imperative that you turn off the electrical supply to the consumer unit or fuse box and call an electrician immediately. Without prompt investigation this situation will worsen and likely cost more to fix than by taking immediate action.

Frequent Fuse Box Issues

If you experience fuses blowing regularly, switches that trip frequently or crackling noises from the fuse box (or anywhere else in the electrics) then you most certainly have electrical issues that require investigation!

Electrical problems do not go away on their own and can lead to serious dangers if not checked out quickly. There may be a simple solution to these types of problems and I am able to find faults and carry out repairs where safe to do so.

Intermittent Power Cuts

Intermittent power cuts can be caused by the electricity supply from outside the home and a good way to check if there are power supply issues in your area is to call 105. This is a freephone number and will connect you to the local distribution network operator that supplies the electricity in your area.

They will be able to tell you if there are any planned works or emergency works going on that may be affecting your electricity supply intermittently.

If there are no known issues yet you are still experiencing problems, please call me! Intermittent power cuts can be as a result of overheating, loose wiring and can pose a serious fire risk.

What happens on a rewire?

Rewiring a property involved replacing the electrical cables, sockets, switches, and fuse box. The whole electrical system should be replaced on a complete rewire.

The walls are cut open to allow the installation of cables, floorboard are lifted to route cables through the property in a hidden manner and back boxes are installed in the walls to enable sockets and switches to be installed.

Once all the access works have been carried out and the new cables have been installed, the consumer unit and new electrical accessories are installed.

What is electrical testing?

Electrical testing is an important safety aspect and requirement of the wiring regulations. Testing is carried out throughout a rewire to ensure that new cabling, electrical accessories, and fuse box / consumer unit are all safe to use and compliant with the wiring regulations.

Final testing is carried out once everything has been installed to ensure that the electric shock protection is working as intended and functional testing of the switches and sockets is carried out to ensure everything is working.

Certification

Paperwork needs to be completed throughout the process and once finished to document the test results, prove compliance with the wiring regulations and to notify building control (in domestic properties) that the work carried out has been done so safely and in accordance with all regulations.
