How long does solar actually take to pay for itself?
This is usually the first question we get when visiting homeowners.
The honest answer is, there isn’t one single number.
It depends on:
- how much electricity you use
- when you use it
- whether a battery is included
- your electricity tariff
Two houses next door to each other can have completely different results.
What we normally see is this:
Homes that only install panels reduce their bill.
Homes that install panels and a battery change how they buy electricity altogether, because they’re using their own stored energy in the evening instead of peak rate power.
There are also export payments now, so any electricity you don’t use can be sold back to the grid.
Rather than giving rough national averages, we calculate it using your actual usage so the figures mean something.
If you’d like us to estimate it for your home, get in touch and we can take a look at a recent energy bill!
